Hotel & Restaurant
Combe House has been a hotel for over a century, but is firmly in the 21st century with wireless internet throughout the hotel, free to residents, the finest bed linen (300 count satin-cotton), huge fluffy towels (600 grams) and flat screen tv (superior rooms). Before that, its waterwheel provided power to wash hides for an on-site tannery, for a sawmill and also to crack stones from a nearby quarry. These enterprises all ceased in about 1900 and the owner of the buildings linked them internally to provide a residence for himself and his family.
After only three or four years of living in his new home, he found the costs of heating it too much for him and so converted it into a hotel, which it has remained ever since.
Under its present ownership, the hotel has been extensively refurbished. Its lounge furniture has all been lovingly restored, while the restaurant has been equipped with new hand-made maple and walnut tables from Cornwall.
Each of the bedrooms has its own individual character - no two are alike, but beds are all generously sized and the rooms have wonderful views of the gardens and combe.
In the kitchen, the emphasis is on using the finest local produce available and we have developed our own organic kitchen garden to provide the hotel with fresh vegetables and soft fruit.
