Kids Cookery School - Summer Hols 2009
Wednesday, 12th, 19th & 26th August 2009
Our Children's Cooking courses are aimed at encouraging children aged 6-12 to enjoy and experiment with food, whilst learning some basic food skills in a friendly and safe environment. Each group (maximum 6 places per course) will spend the afternoon under the guidance of a senior Combe House Chef in the Pastry & Baking Dept preparing, measuring out, mixing and of course cooking their food. The course will combine fun with learning about fresh wholesome ingredients. The children will take home the food they have prepared and a recipe card to try out. The maximum number of children per course is restricted to 6. Parents or guardians who book children on a cooking course will receive a voucher for 15% off a 3 course dinner for 2 in the hotel restaurant.

Arrive: 1pm for lunch with Chef - Cooking 2-4 pm - Depart 4:15

Pen & Wash Painting Course at Combe House Hotel
Tuesday 5th May 2009 for 3 nights or Tuesday 8th September 2009 for three nights (Please note non-painting partners, are most welcome)
Combe House Hotel is delighted to add another three night Painting Course focused on Painting Buildings in Pen & Wash to its’ agenda of activities running throughout 2009. This highly instructive course is organised and hosted by accomplished and well known Somerset artist and retired architect Tony Haskell.
Pen and Wash has been an accepted part of the artist's repertoire for centuries and offers a popular painting method also suitable for beginners as a technique allowing you to create exciting pictures quickly. Buildings in all their variety of shapes and layouts offer a good start to developing drawing and painting skills. Time will be allocated to explain perspective as well as advice on colour presentation, composition and painting techniques.
The Tutor: Tony Haskell worked as a Chartered Architect and Town Planner. Since 1999 he has been the Chairman of the Somerset Society of Artists. He has also written and illustrated books, including ‘By Waterway to Taunton’ and ‘Caring for our Built Heritage’. Tony is highly experienced and has the rare ability of being able to bring both his architectural and artistic knowledge together in one very rewarding course.

Price does not include: Transport to Painting venues in the locality as chosen by Tony Haskell. Guests are required to arrange their own transport in their own vehicles please, with car share on location a popular option.
NB: most likely painting venues will be within easy walking distance of the hotel.
Course Information

Recommended materials to bring with you:
There are three main water-colour papers available, Hot Press, NOT and Rough. Hot Press paper is unsuitable for this course, but Tony recommends NOT paper (which stands for not Hot Press paper), Bring a spiral-bound sketchbook, containing around 10 sheets of 140lb (300gsm) of NOT watercolour paper, plus ideally, a sketcher's water-colour pocket paint box, containing about 12 pans. Those with a thumb ring are adapted for ease of use when painting outside but are not essential. Also a set of water-colour brushes, which should include at least a size 12, 8 and 4 and some light resistant and waterproof black pigment pens such as the PILOT DR range, again obtainable from art supply shops, as well as some HB & B pencils. You may also bring along a small sketchbook for rough sketching and notes.
Most importantly please bring a lightweight folding chair.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Rates including specials are subject to availability and may change without notice. Deposits are non-refundable, but may be applied to a future booking made within three months of the original. Amex cards are subject to a 4% surcharge. There is a minimum stay of two days on all bank holiday weekends and most other weekends during the high season. There is a minimum additional charge of �20.00 per night for 1 person in a double room. Children staying in rooms with parents/guardian will be charged at �40 per child per night. Cots are available and charged at �10 per night. Dogs are welcome in some rooms at �5.00 per dog per night. Rooms cancelled within 24 hours of check in time on the arrival date will be charged at 100% of the full rate, those cancelled within 48 hours will be charged 50%. Special, group and discounted rates are fully chargeable when booked and are non-refundable. You may therefore wish to insure against having to cancel. Damage to hotel property and additional cleaning required to service a room will be charged. Alcohol brought onto the premises and consumed will be liable to a corkage charge. Property left at the hotel will be forwarded as requested at standard P&P rates + a �10 handling charge. restaurant bookings of 10 or over will be subject to a 10% service charge.
